Rangers play host to their Russian opponents on Thursday evening in the Europa League.

Joe Worrall of Rangers looks on prior to the Scottish Ladbrokes Premiership match between Rangers and Hearts at Ibrox Stadium on October 7, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Steven Gerrard will be looking to place one hand on reaching the European knockout stage by earning three points over Spartak Moscow at Ibrox on Thursday evening – and Rangers fans expect Joe Worrall to start over Nikola Katic.

Katic and Connor Goldson had featured regularly alongside eachother at centre-back during the early stages of the season, but Worrall’s arrival on loan from Nottingham Forest has changed that.

The 21-year-old has started both of Rangers’ Group G Europa League outings against Villarreal and Rapid Vienna, as well as featuring in the league wins against Hearts and Livingston.

He came off the bench on Sunday during the 4-1 win over Hamilton to replace 22-year-old Katic, with the belief that Worrall was being rested ahead of Thursday’s clash.

Gerrard has confirmed that Borna Barisic is available despite missing Sunday’s win, while Ryan Jack is also expected to play some part. Scott Arfield, though, remains very much 50-50.

But it is expected among the Ibrox support that Worrall will come back in for Katic ahead of Thursday night’s clash, with a win pushing Rangers on to seven points in first place.
