Glasgow Rangers have reportedly made the Arsenal youngster their number one target for the January transfer window.

Rangers supporters have been left largely divided on Twitter following reports that suggested that Arsenal youngster Jon Toral had become Mark Warburton’s number one target for the January transfer window.

The Daily Record reported on Wednesday that the Gers boss was so interested in being reunited with the attacking midfielder – with whom he worked during their time together at Brentford – that he had flown out to Spain to speak to Toral and had roped in former Light Blues star Mikel Arteta to help pitch an Ibrox move to the 21-year-old.

The main stumbling block to any potential deal may perhaps be the fact that he is currently on loan at Granada. But having struggled for game-time with the La Liga outfit, it perhaps would not be the biggest surprise if a break clause was activated if there is one available.

Though Toral has struggled back in his home country, his form during his previous loan spells in the Championship – with the Bees and Birmingham City – should give fans some hope that if he does move to Rangers on a temporary basis, he can make an impact in the Scottish Premiership.

But while some supporters on social media are choosing to look at a potential switch positively, others have been left less convinced, with some not too sure about whether he is at the right level while there have also been suggestions that Warburton should be looking to strengthen in other areas of the pitch.
