Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was unhappy with his side’s late defeat to Rapid Vienna.

The Gers had been the better team for much of the evening before conceding a late goal.

After the final whistle Gerrard headed straight down the tunnel, and only shook hands with the opposing manager a minute later, in the tunnel.

Some Rangers fans were not happy, blasting Gerrard for not going over the thanks the thousands who travelled to support the team.

Gerrard could have handled the defeat better in the heat of the moment and this is an area where he has to learn.

This is also the first time he has experienced an exit from European competition as a manager, and so there should be some leeway too towards the rookie boss.

As a whole Gerrard has done a terrific job to have Rangers fighting for group stage qualification with one game left, especially considering last season’s embarrassment of failing to get there.
