Rangers’ troubling home form reared its ugly head once again on Saturday afternoon, as they lost 1-0 at home to Kilmarnock, with Kris Boyd scoring the winner.

After last weekend’s 3-2 home defeat to Old Firm rivals Celtic, Rangers needed a response against Kilmarnock, but turned in a disappointing performance at Ibrox.

Graeme Murty’s men served up a poor display and rarely looked like troubling Kilmarnock, before the visitors hit a sucker punch and claimed all three points in the second half.

Ex-Rangers striker Boyd came back to Ibrox and bagged the winner, converting from close range to hand Killie all three points in another superb win for Steve Clarke’s side.

Interim Rangers boss Murty has suffered a nightmare week in his attempts to land the job on a permanent basis, and fans are considering other options after two more home defeats.

Frank de Boer remains a popular name in the frame, but Rangers fans took to Twitter after Saturday’s game to suggest that Kilmarnock boss Clarke should be a top contender.

Manager Steve Clarke of Reading looks on during the Capital One Cup third round match between Reading and Everton at Madejski Stadium on September 22, 2015 in Reading, England.

Clarke, 54, has worked miracles since taking the Kilmarnock job in October, as he has lost just three of his 25 games in charge, earning huge plaudits as Killie now close in on a top six finish.

Rangers supporters have called for Clarke to be appointed either immediately or this summer, with some suggesting that Murty should be kept on as Clarke’s assistant if a deal is struck.

Others believe that Rangers have to get in quickly for Clarke before Celtic need a replacement for Brendan Rodgers, urging the club to beat their Old Firm rivals to the Scot’s services after another home defeat.
