The Stoke City midfielder’s tweet about Rangers provoked a strong reaction among from the Ibrox faithful on Sunday.

Charlie Adam of Rangers is tackled by Ioannis Goumas of Panathinaikos during the UEFA Cup round of 32, first leg match at Ibrox Stadium February 13, 2008 in Glasgow,Scotland.

Some Rangers fans believe Charlie Adam is angling for a return to Ibrox from Stoke City.

Adam made his professional debut for Rangers, before embarking on a successful career south of the border with Blackpool, Liverpool and Stoke.

But the Dundee born midfielder has continued to take an interest in the Glasgow side’s progress, and took to Twitter in the aftermath of their Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat against Motherwell on Sunday, urging them to sign ‘more British players ASAP’.

Adam’s assessment provoked a strong reaction from the Rangers faithful, many of whom are not in agreement – especially considering that six of Pedro Caixinha’s starting lineup at Hampden Park hail from Great Britain.

But he later clarified:

Adam signed a one-year extension at Stoke earlier this year, but is yet to feature in a Premier League fixture this season.

And it would appear that many Rangers fans would welcome him back to Ibrox when the transfer window reopens.

Would Stoke’s Adam be a good signing for Rangers in January?
