Kari Arnason explains how plan to defeat Rangers at Ibrox backfired.

Rangers beat Aberdeen 3-0 in midweek at Ibrox and showed they have plenty of fight left in them after suffering consecutive defeats heading into the game.

The win lifted Rangers within three points of the second placed Dons, and they play once again this weekend in the reverse fixture.

Aberdeen defender Kari Arnason has been explaining how their gameplan against Rangers was ruined after they conceded an early goal.

Arnason believed the nervous Rangers fans at Ibrox would be the team’s downfall, if they could just frustrate the home side for long enough.

He told the club website: “It’s good for us that the game is so soon, and we get the chance to bounce back as its important to all the players, staff and coaches that we bounce back and do a proper job on them now.

“We gifted it to them on Wednesday and knew the longer it was 0-0 the better it was for us because the crowd could turn on them. We gave away a penalty early and that got the crowd going.”

Rangers star James Tavernier scored after just seven minutes, and Carlos Pena doubled Rangers’ lead in the 27th.

This gave Rangers fans belief – and they turned into a major asset instead of getting onto the team’s backs.

Now the situation will have reversed after such a one-sided game, and if Rangers can frustrate Aberdeen, it may be the home side at Pittodrie who will start venting their frustrations at Derek McInnes’ Dons.
