Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Carlos Pena does not have a future at Ibrox under him.

Pena is on loan at Club Necaxa in Mexico until the start of January 2019, but The Scottish Sun has claimed that the Rangers-owned midfielder has been spotted in Glasgow.

The 28-year-old midfielder joined Rangers from Guadalajara in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Record to be worth £2.2 million and when Pedro Caixinha was in charge of the Gers.

The Mexico international struggled to make an impact at Rangers last season, and after a loans spell at Cruz Azul, he moved to Club Necaxa on a similar temporary deal.

Rangers manager Gerrard has suggested that Pena does not have a future at Ibrox.

Gerrard told The Scottish Sun about Pena: “He is tied up I believe until January 5, so his services belong elsewhere until then.

“Somewhere between now and then we will make a decision on that but at the moment it’s not the right time to comment on it. I think it would be a very long shot for him.”

Pena arrived at Rangers with a strong reputation, but the 28-year-old has not done much, and it will not come as a surprise if Rangers do sell him in the January transfer window.

Rangers fans have given their take on the future of Pena on Twitter, and below are some of the best comments:
