Rangers have received a boost ahead of Saturday’s Old Firm game with the news that they have announced on their official website this week that Wes Foderingham has signed a new contract at Ibrox.

Foderingham has been a stalwart of the Gers side since arriving during Mark Warburton’s tenure back in 2015, and recently brought up his century of appearances for the club in all competitions.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Light Blues have now confirmed on their official website that the 26-year-old has signed a one-year extension at Ibrox, that is set to keep him at the club until 2020.

The news of Foderingham’s contract extension has gone down extremely well amongst the fans, but it has also not gone unnoticed by one of his old teammates.

Martyn Waghorn of Rangerss controls the ball during the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final match between Celtic and Rangers at Hampden Park on April 23, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Martyn Waghorn played alongside Foderingham for two seasons before leaving for Championship side Ipswich Town in the summer. But he has shown that he is still very much invested in what goes on at his old side, as he took to social media to express his delight at the stopper’s news.

The news has also received a generally positive reaction amongst the supporters. While Foderingham’s form – like all goalkeepers – has occasionally not been the most convincing, there is no question that he has done extremely well during his time with the club, and his contract extension is a positive step for Pedro Caixinha’s men.

And Caixinha will surely be hoping that the reaction from the fans is a sign that the club will receive a lift from Foderingham’s new deal that will boost their chances of securing a positive result from the first Old Firm meeting of the season this weekend.

Here is the best of the reaction…
