Glasgow Rangers failed in their attempt to bring the Aberdeen boss to Ibrox.

As reported by the BBC earlier this month, Rangers were unsuccessful in their attempt to appoint Derek McInnes as their next permanent manager, but that could actually be the best thing to happen to the Gers in quite some time.
After all, in McInnes Rangers would have been appointing a manager whose current side were beaten twice by Gers interim boss Graeme Murty in a matter of days, while the latter has got the players performing in a way few others could have achieved.

McInnes may have the experience and the ‘name’ but Murty is the man the Rangers board should be turning to. After all, he has got his side performing consistently despite the uncertainty around Ibrox right now. So imagine what he could do if faith was put in him and that uncertainty was removed.

Rangers would not have done any better under McInnes than they have done with Murty winning his last three in succession, coaxing some great performances out of previously overlooked or criticised players in the process, as well as giving fans a glimpse of the future.
Rangers did not get McInnes but they should not keep searching when the obvious candidate is right in front of them.
