Ibrox club Rangers facing nervous wait on injured duo ahead of Old Firm clash.
Rangers are facing an anxious wait to hear the news about two players – Bruno Alves and Declan John – both are injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s clash with Celtic.
Alves was forced off in the second half during the League Cup quarter-final match against Partick Thistle on Tuesday night.
The Gers won the match 3-1 but the Portuguese defender limped off, to be replaced by young defender Ross McCrorie.
To make life more difficult for Pedro Caixinha, full-back Declan John, who joined Rangers on loan from Cardiff, also left the pitch with thigh problems.
Caixinha has insisted that he could be willing to throw McCrorie into the derby fixture against Celtic.
“We know we have four days so we need to assess them over the next 24 to 48 hours and see whether we have a clearer idea if they can make it. I need to know before I can make my decision for Saturday,” said Caixinha, as quoted by The Daily Record.
“But Ross McCrorie is going to be one of the best centre-halves in history, not just for this club but for this country.”
Rangers boss rates the 20-year-old very highly, and he is convinced that McCrorie will become Scotland’s top centre-backs in the future.
Lee Hodson replaced John on Tuesday, and he could be pressed into service at left-back, should the summer signing fails to recover on time.
Rangers are five points behind Celtic, and will approach the Old Firm fixture on the back of a four-match unbeaten run in the league.
