Rangers are reportedly interested in a move to hire Scott Parker as the club’s new manager at Ibrox, after the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst – a manager that Ryan Christie has raved about, branding him both “brilliant” and “clever”.

Parker, 42, is without a job after he was sacked just a couple of months after taking Bournemouth back into the top tier of English football. While the Cherries did lose 9-0 to Liverpool, the exit was down to a lack of financial backing.

The ex-Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle and England midfielder believed Bournemouth needed more fire power to save themselves from a relegation scrap. Bournemouth have since appointed Gary O’Neil as manager, Parker’s replacement.

Still without a job, Give Me Sport reporter Dean Jones claims that he is one of the names being considered at Ibrox. Alongside the likes of Ralph Hasenhuttl, Sean Dyche and Gerardo Seoane. Ex-Celtic man Christie is a big fan of Parker.

‘From the moment I started speaking to Scott about Bournemouth last summer I was making up my mind: I knew I wanted to play for him. He was brilliant with me. He was very impressive to talk to,” Christie told the Mail this season.

“As a coach he brings new ideas to the table – you realise playing under him how clever he is. He’s very passionate in training every day. He joins in, and he’s certainly not lost, that’s for sure. It has been brilliant working under him.”

Rangers interested in Parker: Christie branded him brilliant and clever

He is a young manager, a fresh-faced one with bright, new ideas and that is just what Rangers need. Michael Beale seems like the obvious candidate – The Express say van Bronckhorst was annoyed he was invited to Ibrox in October.

Beale, though, would hardly bring anything new to Ibrox. Rangers need a fresh new start, like Celtic did with Ange Postecoglou, if they are to catch the Hoops. Parker’s attacking style has even impressed Pep Guardiola in the past.

That kind of new belief that came at Ibrox when Steven Gerrard first joined would galvanise a fanbase. It would get them excited again. Parker might be the perfect choice and given he is out of work, it would be a quick appointment.
