James Tavernier has signed a new deal with Rangers.
The English right-back has put pen to paper on a new four-year contract.
That decision comes on the back of the Rangers defender courting interest from down South this past summer, with The Scottish Sun reporting that Premier League side Crystal Palace were going to lodge a £3.5 million bid.
But the Gers have safeguarded themselves now – and it’s an excellent decision.
With the way he’s playing, January interest in Tavernier is inevitable and although Rangers boss Steven Gerrard won’t want to lose him, he has the peace of mind in knowing that a very big fee is needed to prise him away from Ibrox.
In fact, the Blues are learning from Celtic’s mistake on Dedryck Boyata and have refused to allow a key player’s contract to run down, to the point where it’s a problem on and off the field.
The Boyata saga undoubtedly harmed the Hoops during the summer, but it’s refreshing to see that Rangers are steering clear of the same sort of issue by signing up the former Wigan star.
