Rangers won’t be signing Erik Botheim with the Norwegian striker set to join Salternitana instead of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men.

It’s abundantly clear that Rangers need to sign a new striker this summer with Van Bronckhorst in desperate need of attacking reinforcements.

It looks like PAOK striker Antonio Colak is the most likely addition to the Rangers attack, but others strikers have been linked.

From Mateo Cassierra to Stephen Odey, Rangers have been connected to a host of strikers – and one name can be crossed off in Botheim.

Rangers won’t be signing Erik Botheim

TEAMtalk reported in June that Rangers were showing a real interest in signing Botheim this summer.

Botheim only joined FC Krasnodar in January but ripped up his contract in November amid the Russian conflict with Ukraine.

The 22-year-old striker hit the headlines with Bodo/Glimt, bagging 23 goals in 46 games, so news of him becoming a free agent was of interest to many clubs.

Football Scotland added that Rangers had watched Botheim in recent times but were yet to make an offer to the Norwegian striker.

Botheim was a target for many clubs though and it looks like he has now picked Italy as his next club.

TV2 in Botheim’s native Norway claim that Botheim is on his way to sign for Salernitana and has been in Salerno this week to sign a four-year deal.

The move hasn’t been confirmed just yet but the expectation is that Botheim will be a Salernitana player very soon.

Salernitana just about managed to avoid relegation from Serie A last season and are now looking to kick on.

This move means Botheim will be playing alongside Franck Ribery next season, as well as former Rangers midfielder Lassana Coulibaly.

Salernitana already have two Norwegian players in their ranks too with Emil Bohinen and Julian Kristoffersen in their ranks.

That will of course appeal to Botheim, and his imminent move means Rangers must look elsewhere for a new goalscorer.
