Rangers have confirmed that midfielder Malcolm Ebiowei has left the club to join Championship side Derby County.
Ebiowei, who joined Rangers after a stint with Arsenal 18 months ago returns to England to join the Rams’ Academy.
The midfielder has been involved with the under-18s and B team but has struggled to really kick on since arriving at Ibrox at the beginning of 2020.
He has signed a one-year deal with Derby and it is unclear whether Rangers will pocket any fee or stand to benefit from future clauses resulting from his move.
With a host of players ahead of him in the pecking order, including recent signing Charlie McCann, it isn’t a surprise to see the former England under-16 cap leave Rangers.
The 18-year-old has represented both England and Netherlands at youth international level, as well as training with Nigeria – and it was reported that his involvement with the Super Eagles under-17s played a part in his Arsenal exit.
Manchester City, Man United, Everton were all credited with an interest in the teen in the past and he also had a trial with West Ham United before joining Rangers.
Ebiowei made his debut for Arsenal under-18s at 15 and will hope his move to Pride Park can help push him closer to first-team football.
