With Hull City making a move for Motherwell starlet Chris Cadden, you wonder why Rangers have not renewed their interest.
While the long-running saga that is Jamie Walker’s potential move to Rangers is showing no signs of going away any time soon, they appear to have dropped the ball in their pursuit of Motherwell starlet Chris Cadden (Daily Record).
As reported by the Daily Record, Hearts will demand £1 million for 24-year-old Walker, who scored 15 goals from the wing in all competitions last season. Rangers, whose highest offer is understood to be around £600,000, have so far shown no desire to meet their demands.
Yet, while the negotiations are ongoing, Cadden appears likely to leave Motherwell for half the price required to take Walker to Ibrox. The Daily Record reports that Well will listen to offers of around £500,000 for the 20-year-old, who enjoyed a fine breakthrough season with 36 Scottish Premiership appearances in 2016/17.
And the Scottish Sun reports that Hull City are set to test the water with a bid with Tigers boss Leonid Slutsky looking out for a quick and creative wideman to give the recently relegated club another dimension going forward.
They enjoyed great success with Andrew Robertson, the former Dundee United left-back signed in 2014, selling him on to Liverpool for a profit of around £8 million this summer. Therefore, Hull may be hoping lightning strikes twice.
However, with Motherwell seemingly prepared to let Cadden, one of Scotland’s brightest young talents, leave for a bargain fee, it seems bizarre that Rangers are yet to renew their interest.
Clearly, Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha believes another winger would be a necessary addition to his squad and Cadden, two years younger and half the price of Walker, would be an excellent investment with the potential to make the club a substantial profit somewhere down the line.
