Rangers have drawn Braga in the Europa League quarter-finals after knocking Red Star Belgrade out of the competition on Thursday. With the Gers set to welcome Braga to Ibrox, Chris Sutton has responded on Twitter.
Rangers booked their place in the last eight despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Red Star in Serbia on Thursday night. However, their first-leg 3-0 win saw them qualify – as did the heroics of Allan McGregor during the second leg.
McGregor saved a penalty in the first leg, and pulled off numerous stunning saves to limit Red Star to just two goals – despite having 13 shots on target. Rangers now take on Braga, a side they faced in the last 32 in 2019.
Of course, Rangers knocked Braga out of the competition three years ago – winning 1-0 in Portugal and 3-2 at Ibrox. Chris Sutton believes another clash against the Liga NOS side hands the Gers a real chance to qualify.
Rangers draw Braga: Sutton is right, a real chances for Ibrox side
Given they beat Braga back in 2019, Rangers have a real chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the competition. Avoiding clubs like Barcelona, RB Leipzig and Atalanta – the Gers have got a brilliant draw.
The winners of the clash, which will be played on April 7 and 14 – the first leg in Portugal – will take on either Leipzig or Atalanta, a much sterner test for the Gers. But Sutton is right, Rangers have a real chance of semi-finals.
