Rangers are reportedly looking to lure Jermain Defoe and Lucas Leiva to Ibrox.
According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are lining up a double swoop to reunite manager Steven Gerrard with Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe and Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva.
The Gers tied up their second signing of the summer on Wednesday evening, as goalkeeper Allan McGregor re-joined the club from Hull City, penning a two-year deal six years after leaving Ibrox.
After landing Scott Arfield from Burnley earlier this week, Rangers are making strides with their summer transfer plans, and now two big names could be lined up for Ibrox moves.
The Scottish Sun report that Gerrard wants to reunite with two of his former teammates, with Jermain Defoe and Lucas Leiva both being targeted for shock moves to Glasgow.
Defoe, 35, was prolific with Sunderland having hit 37 goals in 93 games before re-joining Bournemouth last summer, but the striker managed just four goals in 24 outings for the Cherries this season.
Having played with Gerrard for England, Defoe may be tempted to reunite at Ibrox, and it’s claimed that Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe may be willing to let Defoe leave on loan, most likely as Rangers can’t take on his £65,000-a-week wages.
Meanwhile, Brazilian Lucas played in the heart of the Liverpool midfield with Gerrard, and only left the Reds last summer in order to move to Italy with Lazio.
The 31-year-old is now thought to be interested in reuniting with Gerrard at Ibrox, but with Lazio reluctant to sell, it may be difficult for Rangers to secure his signature this summer.
