Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed Connor Goldson missed this afternoon’s Premiership clash with St. Johnstone as he is self-isolating, ending the defensive colossus’ run of 81 consecutive games stretching back to August 2019 as the Light Blues suffered a double blow ahead of facing Lyon on Thursday.

Goldson has played every minute of every game since sitting out a League Cup win over East Fife and things got worse for the Light Blues when Fil Helander was stretchered off with 15 minutes left in Perth.
Gerrard confirmed the reason for Goldson’s absence, admitting he would have loved to have him available for the McDiarmid Park clash.
“He’s very robust and he’s been really crucial all the way through since day one for me,” Gerrard told Sky Sports.
“I’d have loved to have him available but unfortunately we have to do what we have to do.
“Thankfully we have got good options who hopefully step up and perform well in his absence.”

With a Europa League tie against Lyon on Thursday night, to prospect of going into the game without Goldson and Helander will be a massive concern,
Jack Simpson, who replaced Helander in Perth isn’t part of the Europa League squad, leaving Rangers potentially very short of options against the Ligue 1 side.
