Rangers want Dion Sanderson but Wolverhampton Wanderers are believed to be demanding around £3million for the defender.

The Scottish Sun reported on Sunday that Rangers are eyeing Sanderson after being scouted by Ross Wilson and John Park.

Sanderson is currently on loan at Birmingham City but Wolves may be willing to sell in 2023.

Football Scotland now claim that Wolves are seeking around £3million for Sanderson if they were to offload him.

There is a problem for Rangers though as Sanderson’s loan to Birmingham doesn’t include a recall clause.

That means that, if Sanderson is to join Rangers this move, it would rely on Birmingham allowing it to happen, which doesn’t seem likely.

Sanderson has started 24 Championship games for Birmingham this season and has been a key player under John Eustace.

Sanderson would bring flexibility to Rangers

23-year-old Sanderson has come up through the Wolves ranks but hasn’t even made a single league appearance for the club.

After loans at Cardiff City, Sunderland, Birmingham City, QPR and now Birmingham again, it may be time for Sanderson to settle down somewhere.

Rangers will be hoping that Sanderson fancies a move to Ibrox and he would bring real tactical flexibility for Michael Beale.

Sanderson has played as a right back in a four back, possibly giving genuine competition for James Tavernier in that position.

The 6ft 2in defender has also played as a centre back in a four-man defence, which is where Rangers have struggled with injuries this season.

Sanderson really shines as a right-sided centre back in a three, allowing him to get wide and carry the ball forward.

An appealing move may be to play Sanderson and Ben Davies either side of Connor Goldson moving forward, allowing a switch to a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 if Beale wishes to do so.

Quick, strong and good on the ball, Sanderson offers quality in a number of different roles and may well be worth that £3m, just as Connor Goldson was in 2018.
