Rangers defender Ross McCrorie thankful to Pedro Caixinha

Glasgow Rangers defender Ross McCrorie is an important player for the Ibrox club and is playing well for the Gers.

Rangers defender Ross McCrorie has told The Scottish Sun that he is thankful to former Ibrox manager Pedro Caixinha for having faith in him.

McCrorie has burst onto the scene this season and has established himself in the Rangers first team.

The 19-year-old defender has also demonstrated his versatility by playing in a defensive midfield role.

The Scotland Under-21 international has thanked Caixinha for showing faith in him.

The Portuguese coach, now the manager of Cruz Azul, was in charge of Rangers from March 2017 until October 2017.

Caixinha succeeded Mark Warburton, who, McCrorie says, did not think that he was ready for the first team when he was the manager of Rangers.

Warburton, who was dismissed as the manager of Nottingham Forest in the Championship in England on New Year’s Eve, was the manager of Scottish giants Rangers from June 2015 until February 2017.

McCrorie told The Scottish Sun: “I don’t think Mark fancied me and I respected his opinion. He felt I wasn’t ready and he was probably right at the time. There was a fear when I went to Dumbarton that I might not come back to Rangers.”

The youngster added about Caixinha: “Thankfully, when Pedro came in, he gave me an opportunity. So it’s worked out well in the end.

“I don’t think Pedro had watched me. I think it was just that I came back from Dumbarton a far better player.

“It had helped being there, getting games and the training. I think he saw something when I was training with the first team.”

Meanwhile, Rangers defender Danny Wilson has thanked current manager Graeme Murty for giving him opportunities.

The former Liverpool centre-back struggled for regular playing time under Caixinha, but he is now an important player for the Gers under Murty.

Wilson told The Scottish Sun: “I’ve been grateful to the gaffer for giving me an opportunity because I’ve been on the outside looking in.”

The defender added: “We’ve never had a big conversation but he wants his players to take responsibility. All he’s told me to do is make myself difficult to drop.”
