Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers defender Ross McCrorie says he is a level-headed boy.
Glasgow Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha had praised young Ross McCrorie last month, saying he could be one of Scotland’s best ever defenders.
The Scotland U-21 international has worked his way through the Ibrox club Rangers youth system, and became captain of their U20 side.
He joined Scottish League One side Ayr United on loan in February 2016, and played a huge part as Ayr won promotion.
McCrorie was handed his debut game by Caixinha in September, when he replaced Bruno Alves against Patrick Thistle, a match Rangers won 3-1 after extra time.
After that match, Caixinha made those bold comments, saying the19-year-old could be the future of Scotland.
He then made his debut in the Scottish Premier League and later took part in the Old Firm clash against Celtic at Ibrox. Although Rangers lost 2-0, McCrorie’s performance was praised by the pundits.
The youngster in his third outing at the Superseal Stadium, conceded a penalty with a clumsy challenge in the box.
McCrorie says that he is not getting carried away by all the hype, and says his feet are firmly on the ground.
“I saw the manager’s comments after the Thistle game but I just took it in my stride, I didn’t read too much into it,” said McCrorie, as quoted by The Daily Record.
“Obviously it’s great what he said but I”m a level-headed boy so I won’t get carried away. I’ll just continue to do my best and see where it takes me in my career.
“I got a wee bit of a slagging off my mates about it though! Some of the boys in the changing room gave me stick as well. But no, the Rangers lads are great with me.
“People have said a lot of nice things about me and if that’s what they think of me, great. But I’m not looking too much into it. I certainly won’t let it go to my head or get too big-headed about it. I’ll stay on the level and see what I can achieve.”
