Rangers beat Hamilton 4-1 away from home this afternoon.
Rangers picked up their first away league win in eight months today, as they beat Hamilton Academical 4-1 at New Douglas Park this afternoon.
The Gers returned from the international break with a trip to Hamilton, with concerns not only over their plastic pitch, but also their terrible away record.
Late goals conceded away at Aberdeen and Motherwell led to draws, and there was also a defeat at Livingston, to leave fans hugely concerned about today’s game.
With a fairly turgid first-half performance, Rangers were somewhat lucky to go in front before the break as Ryan Kent beat Gary Woods to the ball and scored to make it 1-0.
Rangers couldn’t find a second and were always in danger of another away day nightmare, and it looked as though they would fall again as Steven Boyd scored a screamer to equalise for the host.
However, James Tavernier scored two penalties after two Alex Penny errors, and Alfredo Morelos slammed home a late fourth to get Rangers out of jail in emphatic style.
Gerrard made one key change at 1-0 up, substituting defender Nikola Katic for Joe Worrall, with the Croatian struggling on the plastic pitch at New Douglas Park.
Katic was a key man for Rangers early in the season, has been dropped of late for Worrall, and after being brought back in against Hamilton, he looked completely shot of confidence.
Fans took to Twitter to comment on Katic’s performance, suggesting he had a ‘stinker’ and turned in his worst performance yet, adding that his performance was ‘unacceptable’ and looked like he’d been watching DVDs of Celtic defender Jack Hendry.
