Glasgow Rangers right-back James Tavernier attended Leeds United’s match against Middlesbrough last month.
Rangers defender James Tavernier has revealed to The Scottish Sun that he is a Leeds United fan.
Tavernier, who started his professional club football career at Newcastle United, has been on the books of Scottish Premiership club Rangers since the summer of 2015 when he joined from Wigan Athletic.
The 26-year-old Rangers right-back has also revealed that he went to watch the Championship match between Leeds and Middlesbrough at Elland Road in November.
The Ibrox star’s younger brother, Marcus Tavernier, featured in the game for Garry Monk’s Middlesbrough.
The 18-year-old winger started the Championship game and played for 56 minutes, as Monk’s Boro lost 2-1 to Leeds.
Rangers defender Tavernier has admitted that he found it tough to watch his younger brother play against the club he supports, Leeds, but he has conceded that he was also gunning for Middlesbrough in the match because of him.
Tavernier told The Scottish Sun about his younger brother Marcus: “I went down to watch him play against Leeds — but that was a bit of a hard one for me because I’m a Leeds fan and was sitting in the Leeds end!
“When I told Marcus I was going in the Leeds end I think he expected it because he knows what I’m like with Leeds. My mum wasn’t in the away end at Elland Road either as she’s a Leeds fan too.
“I told him I didn’t think I could stand in the Middlesbrough end getting shouted at by Leeds fans. But then again I was almost supporting Boro because of him.”
Rangers are aiming to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season, while Leeds and Middlesbrough are fighting for a place in the top six of the Championship.
