Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier reveals Ibrox boss Graeme Murty’s tactical plans against Celtic.
Rangers defender James Tavernier has showered praise on the Ibrox club manager, Graeme Murty, saying he is doing a “good job” at the club.
The Gers produced a fantastic performance against Celtic in their recent 0-0 draw in the Scottish Premier League prior to the winter break.
Tavernier, who was reportedly linked with a move away from Ibrox last week, produced a brilliant performance against Celtic that deserves plaudits.
The right-back looked a threat going forward and defended well at the same time. He was crucial to Rangers securing a point against their arch rivals.
The 26-year-old says that under Murty, the Gers have drawn both times at Parkhead, and that it is a good experience working under him on the training field.
He said that the game plan against Celtic was simple. Rangers players were asked to keep it tight, and they did the job brilliantly.
Tavernier revealed that Murty told them to create spaces and try to penetrate their defence, which Rangers did at times during the game.
“It is good working under him on the training field and that is reflected in the performance on Saturday. We put on a good display for the fans. That spoke volumes about what a good job he is doing,” said Tavernier, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“The game plan was the same as it always is. We knew we had to keep it tight at the back and I think we did that fantastically.
“But he also told us to try and play football when we got the ball, try to create spaces that we can play in, try to penetrate them. I thought we did that well at times as well. We were unlucky that we didn’t get the win. It augurs well for the future.”
