Clint Hill has heaped praise upon Rangers teammate Matt Gilks following his performance in the Scottish League Cup semi-final, before suggesting how many points they need to take from their next two games, the Evening Times reports.

Mark Warburton’s men’s hopes of landing the first trophy of the season were dashed as they were beaten 1-0 by their Old Firm foes at Hampden Park.

Nevertheless, perhaps the player that emerged from the game with the most credit was the Light Blues stopper, who made a string of fine saves to keep the Ibrox side in the contest before Moussa Dembele’s late winner.

And Hill has echoed what many are saying about the veteran’s performance, before insisting that, following the loss, they must bounce back in their upcoming games against St Johnstone and Kilmarnock.

“I’m very proud at the way we handled it today. Unfortunately we just couldn’t get over the line,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“When you’re up against players like that you’re going to need your goalkeeper and he was outstanding today, three or four massive saves for us.

“I’m proud of how we did it – considering it was 5-1 last time we can take a lot of confidence from it but now we have to go into two tough games this week because we need six points from them.”

With Celtic currently seven points clear of the Gers, and with a game in hand also, it is surely essential that Warburton’s men begin to put some pressure on by closing that gap if they hope to be in the title picture at all come the end of the campaign.
