Rangers defender Cardoso rules himself out of Dundee trip

Rangers travel to Dens Park on Friday night to face Dundee.

Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso has seemed to suggest on Twitter he will not be involved in Friday night’s Scottish Premiership clash against Dundee at Dens Park.

The 23-year-old has not been involved since breaking his nose during the Betfred Cup semi-final loss to Motherwell, as the Portuguese ace was on the receiving end of a flying elbow from the Well’s Ryan Bowman.

A summer signing from Portuguese side Vitoria Setubal, Cardoso was part of the side that beat Berwick Rangers 4-0 in Steven Notman’s testimonial last week, featuring for an hour of the match.

However, despite coming through that apparently unscathed, Rangers’ number four looks to remain unavailable for selection against Dundee by posting on Twitter “Good luck for tomorrow boys”, although it is not known for certain if he will miss the match.

Since his injury, mainstay Cardoso has been replaced by Gers academy product Ross McCrorie who has taken his chance with both hands – earning plaudits from players and pundits alike.

The 19-year-old is now likely to start at the back, with either Danny Wilson or Bruno Alves expected to partner him as interim manager Graeme Murty looks to mastermind a third three points in his fourth game in charge.

The Gers come into the match after a dismal 2-0 loss to Hamilton on Saturday and will be desperate to put things right against Dundee. A repeat of their 4-1 victory at Ibrox would delight fans, that saw Josh Windass, Carlos Pena and an Alfredo Morelos brace earn all three points back in September.
