Fabio Cardoso has been sidelined since breaking his nose for Rangers against Motherwell.

Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso has claimed on Twitter that he is “almost back” as he continues to remain on the sidelines after suffering a broken nose last month.

The 23-year-old centre-back has missed the Gers last three matches after Motherwell attacker Ryan Bowman struck a nasty elbow into the Portuguese star’s face when going up for a header during the 2-0 Betfred Cup semi-final loss.

Cardoso, who signed for Rangers this summer from Portuguese Liga NOS side Vitoria Setubal, told fans last week that he was set to undergo surgery to correct issue on Friday.

Now, Rangers’ number four has posted on his official Twitter account that he is close to returning to action after missing the Light Blues’ last three matches against Kilmarnock, Hearts and Partick Thistle.

Cardoso has impressed at Ibrox since his summer move, helping the club keep four clean sheets in his 14 league and cup appearances at centre-back which has seen him strike a chord with fellow countryman Bruno Alves.

However, Ross McCrorie’s emergence in his absence has seen the 19-year-old in with a shout of keeping his place despite Cardoso’s return, after the youngster opened the scoring against Partick on Saturday during his side’s 3-0 win.

Interim boss Graeme Murty has a huge decision to make if he is still in charge after the international break, as Rangers next face Hamilton at Ibrox on November 18.
