Borna Barisic has been playing well for Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers recently.
Borna Barisic of Rangers
Rangers defender Borna Barisic has told The Herald that there is more to come from him.
The left-back made the comments following Rangers’ defeat to Young Boys in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
The 26-year-old did not start the game strongly, but he improved as it wore on and provided the assist for Alfredo Morelos.
Barisic told The Herald: “If I was just looking at myself then I feel very good and I think everyone sees that on the pitch but of course I am not happy because Rangers lost.
“This is the best I have played since I have come here but it isn’t the best I can be. How much more is there to come? You will see.”
Back in form
Borna Barisic had gone off the boil for a while, but the 26-year-old is now back in form and is playing well for Rangers at left-back.
The Croatian is doing well at the back and is contributing in attack, and Rangers fans will hope that the rejuvenated left-back continues to improve and develop.
The left-back – who moved to Rangers from NK Osijek in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £2.2 million – has yet to hit his peak, and the Ibrox faithful will hope that he does that with the Gers.
James Tavernier situation
Meanwhile, former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson has suggested that James Tavernier should keep his place in the team despite his mistakes against Young Boys on Thursday.
Ferguson wrote in The Daily Record: “I’m not surprised to see some knee-jerk reaction to Tavernier’s performance. I’ve seen that with plenty of players but it’s the disappointment of losing a game and emotions can run high.
“He’s experienced enough to realise he should have been dealt with better but it’s over the top to say he should lose his place.
“He’ll be man enough to admit he could have dealt with the situations better. He’s a good professional and he’ll know his decison-making could have been better but people need to calm down a bit.”
