Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers’ expenditure on defenders could reportedly reach £8 million soon.

The Daily Record reckon that Rangers have made a £3 million bid to sign centre-back Jake Cooper.
The Millwall stalwart is heavily linked with a move to Rangers and it looks like Gers boss Steven Gerrard might have stepped up his interest.
Should Cooper arrive, Gerrard will have signed three, towering centre-halves this summer and, given what they would have cost, the Ibrox side will be under major pressure to perform defensively.
If the 23-year-old joins the Blues then Gerrard will have splashed the guts of £8 million on defenders this summer, following deals for Connor Goldson at £3 million [The Daily Record] and Nikola Katic for £2 million [The Scottish Sun].
Bolstering Rangers’ defence was the the smart move by the first-time manager, considering that Rangers shipped 50 goals in the Premiership last season – no other team inside the top seven conceded more.
But £8 million is a hell of a lot of money to use on strengthening one position and there will be huge expectation on Gerrard to now curb his side’s defensive frailties as a result.
For that outlay, Gerrard’s side really must be watertight for most of the upcoming season. Anything less and maybe, just maybe, the Liverpool icon will have got the balance badly wrong.
