Former Rangers chairman Dave King has insisted that Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard is “absolutely not” looking at a move away from the Light Blues – and thinks the Gers manager will have been “energised” by last season’s title success.

Gerrard’s name is constantly mentioned as a potential option when jobs become available south of the border but King is adamant the Liverpool icon has no desire to move on from Rangers yet.
As Gerrard’s fourth season at Ibrox gets underway, King thinks it is the “most exciting” one yet for Gerrard with the prospect of Champions League group stage qualification and the Gers’ first title defence in a decade.
“This is the most exciting season because there is so much potential and that will be a huge motivation to Steven,” King told the Rangers Connection podcast.
“There is absolute certainty on Steven. He’s committed. He’s absolutely not looking to go anywhere.
“He is energised. He saw last season as a critical stepping stone and for him, the end game wasn’t to win one league title.
“The end game is building on that and I would imagine the motivation for Steven will be very high this season.”
The Light Blues have got their title defence of to a winning start, beating Livingston 3-0 at the weekend, but their Champions League qualification aims took a blow, losing 2-1 to Malmo in their first leg on Tuesday.

With this season’s Premiership winners almost certain to gain automatic entry to the group stages next season, there is plenty of reason for Gerrard to be “energised” by Rangers’ success last season.
