Rangers missed out on Danilho Doekhi and Premier League clubs now appear to be sniffing around the Union Berlin defender ahead of a possible move.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claims that English and Italian clubs are now chasing Doekhi for a summer move.

Romano notes that Doekhi has been playing a ‘top level’ since joining Union Berlin on a free transfer from Vitesse Arnhem.

Doekhi was in fine form over the weekend, popping up with two goals to help Union beat Hoffenheim 3-1 in the Bundesliga.

Union sit third in the table and are just five points behind league leaders Bayern Munich, meaning they have real hope of a Champions League finish.

Doekhi is key to that and Rangers must be absolutely kicking themselves after missing out.

Rangers could now see Danilho Doekhi make a big move

Rangers looked to be favourites to sign Doekhi on a free transfer from Vitesse at one point in 2022.

The Athletic reported in January that Rangers were in a ‘strong position’ to bring Doekhi to Ibrox on a free transfer.

Doekhi was inside the final six months of his Vitesse contract and then-manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst – with his knowledge of the Eredivisie market – wanted to bring Doekhi to Ibrox.

However, De Gelderlander reported that Doekhi rejected Rangers in favour of making the move to Germany with Union.

Rangers have used so many defensive partnerships this season because their current options just can’t stay fit.

Yet you look at Doekhi and he is proving to be a rock for Union and is even chipping in with goals as they enjoy a superb season.

Ross Wilson is under enough pressure as it is but it’s transfer misses like Doekhi that will hurt Rangers as they seek players of that kind of quality.

Then you add in that Union will now be in a great position to rake in huge profit for Doekhi and this is the type of signing Rangers really need moving forward.
