Andy Halliday has admitted that he’d love to see former club Rangers make a move for Lawrence Shankland this summer.
Shankland, who was released by the Ibrox club as a younger player, has been linked with a return to the Gers over the past couple of years – and you can see why.
The 24-year-old, who has one cap for Scotland, has scored an eye-watering 74 goals over the past three seasons – two years in the Championship, one in League One – and that form has seemingly attracted the likes of the Old Firm.
Former Ayr United boss Ian McCall revealed that a move to Ibrox was ‘very close’ [BBC Sport] last summer, and Halliday, released by the light Blues last month, has revealed to Open Goal that he’d love to see the red-hot hitman sign for his beloved Rangers.
He said: “I would [take him at Rangers]. He’s done it wherever he’s been and he looks like the type of boy that, if he gets chances, he’s going to score. If you’re at a bigger club you’re going to get more chances.
“He’s just got the knack for scoring goals and that’s something that’s hard to find.”
There is speculation starting up again about Alfredo Morelos’s long-term future in Glasgow, and Jermain Defoe turns 38 in October.
Steven Gerrard is probably going to have to sign a few strikers and it’ll be fascinating to see if Shankland is among them – and even more fascinating to see if he can cut it in the Premiership.
