Rangers have pulled out of the race to sign winger Jake Hastie, the Evening Times report.

Rangers had been strongly linked with making Hastie their first summer signing.

If Steven Gerrard was looking to immediately upgrade his starting XI, then it’s understandable Hastie may not be a priority.

But if Rangers are trying to improve their side long term and snap up the top talent Scotland has to offer, this could be a decision they regret.

Hastie, 21, has made a big impression after breaking into Motherwell’s first team.

The young winger has five goals in 10 appearances and is making a real name for himself.

Hastie is available on a free transfer and could now make a move to MLS side Atlanta United, the Evening Times claim.

On one hand, you can understand Rangers not wanting to waste time if the player’s heart isn’t in it.

Yet it’s also up to them to try harder to convince him to join the iconic Glasgow club.

Hastie has a chance to be a really top star, and a mainstay for Scotland.

Missing out on him now when there’s a chance to snap him up for free could be a decision the club regret for years to come.
