Rangers could have to scrap their planned trip to Portugal for pre-season, according to a report, after Covid fears saw the country added to the UK’s amber list for travel.
According to the Scottish Sun, the Gers were due to head to the Algarve from from June 29 to July 6 but may now head to St. Andrews instead.
The report goes on to also claim that the Light Blues had agreed to face Danish Superliga side SønderjyskE on July before returning to Scotland to step-up their preparations.
Steven Gerrard’s side are also reported to be due to face Tranmere, Partick Thistle, Arsenal, Blackpool and Brighton as they aim to reach the group stages of the Champions League this season.
While St. Andrews is one apparent alternative destination, Rangers are said to ‘prefer’ heading to England instead if the camp in Portugal does need to be scrapped.

What does it mean for Rangers?
As things stand, Rangers could seek an exemption to travel to Portugal but with case numbers continuing to rise, there’s a real fear it will be added to the UK’s red list and see players and staff forced to quarantine for two weeks in a hotel.
With only weeks until the Gers are due to return for pre-season ahead of attempting to defend their title, Rangers will be desperate to get their plans confirmed one way or the other.
