Rangers are said to be interesting in landing Hibernian midfielder John McGinn.
Rangers must capitalise on Hibernian’s reported interest in midfielder Andy Halliday and use it to their advantage in the pursuit of Hibs starlet John McGinn this summer.
The 23-year-old is a target for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, according to the Daily Record, as they look to convince the Scotland international to remain north of the border despite interest from down south.
The report claims bidding is expected to start at £3million, a fee the Gers should be able to match with reports suggesting they are ready to splash £4million on former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.
Even a Premier League club are said to be monitoring McGinn’s progress, after the Hibs number seven scored six goals and laid on eight assists from deep in midfield during the 2017-18 campaign.
But Rangers now have the chance to steal a march on their rivals in a bid to land McGinn’s signature, who has also been long linked with Old Firm rivals Celtic.
That is because Hibs have been linked with a move for versatile left-footer Halliday, according to the Scottish Sun, as Neil Lennon begins a summer revamp in order to push his side closer to second place and indeed former side Celtic.
With Hibs keen to sign 26-year-old Halliday, who has operated at left-back of late instead of central midfield, Rangers could look to include the former FK Gabala loanee in a deal that would see the Gers land McGinn.
It may give priority to the Light Blues in signing McGinn this summer, despite Hibs and Rangers being in direct competition to finish second in the Scottish Premiership behind Celtic this season.
Including Halliday in a deal to sign McGinn would surely put Rangers into pole position for the latter’s signature.
