Glasgow Rangers forward Josh Windass has recently been linked with a seven-figure move away from Ibrox.

The Scottish Sun suggests that Rangers would want at least £3 million for the 24-year-old before they sanctioned a sale, but it could certainly be argued that even for that price, selling Windass would be a major mistake from Steven Gerrard.

If Windass makes it clear that he wants to leave and becomes difficult to work with, then of course, Rangers should welcome offers from the Bluebirds. But while there is absolutely no reason to believe that the forward would have any problem with sticking around, the Light Blues should stand firm and hold onto the playmaker.
Windass seems to divide opinion amongst the supporters. After a difficult first year, he enjoyed a much more successful campaign in front of goal last season and yet, still seemed to be unable to win over his critics.
If Gerrard has a player in his ranks who is not a striker but scores 18 goals in all competitions in one season and the fans still do not believe that they have seen the best of him, then why should Rangers even think about selling for anything short of an astronomical amount?

Windass is young enough to get better and is now playing under two of the most naturally gifted midfielders the Premier League has ever seen in Gerrard and assistant Gary McAllister. If anyone is going to bring the best out of him, it is surely those two.
Some of the criticism of Windass seems to be sometimes justified, but that is exactly why Rangers should look to keep the midfielder while they can because if Gerrard can help the former Accrington Stanley ace kick on further, then his value arguably has the potential to soar significantly and Rangers may have a very special talent on their hands.
