Rangers did not go ahead with their pursuit of Ben Woodburn.

Steven Gerrard has leaned on his connections twice in the transfer market already this summer, to bring in Ovie Ejaria and Ryan Kent to Rangers.

Both players signed on loan for the Gers from Liverpool, hoping to kickstart Gerrard’s spell at Ibrox.

One player they were linked to also was Ben Woodburn – but he has now clinched a loan to Sheffield United.

The Express claimed earlier this summer Gerrard was keen to bring the Wales international to Rangers.

Gers coach Michael Beale worked with Woodburn at Liverpool, and he sent Woodburn a message congratulating him on his move to Bramall Lane.

Rangers may have an opportunity to try again for Woodburn in the future, but for now they have missed out.

Woodburn has done superbly to play for and score for his country already in his young career, and also has a first team goal for Liverpool.

Yet he needs regular football to really prove himself, and this move gives him the opportunity to do just that.
