Rangers first-team coach Michael Beale has spoken in detail about working under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox, insisting the Gers boss has been “absolutely outstanding” with him in their three years in Glasgow.

Gerrard brought Beale to Ibrox with him from Liverpool when he took the reins in 2018 with former Chelsea and Sao Paulo coach given plenty of scope to have a voice on the management of the team, praising the way Gerrard allows his staff to contribute.

“There’s one manager and our manager is very unique in taking our opinions on,” Beale said, speaking to the Gold Dust podcast.

“On a personal level, he has been absolutely outstanding with me, in terms of enabling me to breathe in terms of what I can bring to the team.

“I don’t think there’s another manager I could work under who would give me the same amount of responsibility.

“The responsibility is big and you have to earn it every day, but we are in a position where we can be extremely honest with each other every day.

“We sit at the training ground every day after training, drinking tea and unfortunately eating too many biscuits and we just talk. Maybe a little bit too much, but what we get from it is real clarity in the way we are working.

“Steven is fantastic at allowing three or four others around him to really get their teeth into their job. So rather than one of us managing the team, five of us do and that has been the biggest thing.”

Gerrard seems to be very open to letting his staff have a massive influence on how things are done at the club and it will be interesting to see whether he looks to stick with the same staff throughout his career.

Beale has spoken about his wish to manage in his own right at some point in the future but confessed he’s “extremely happy” at Rangers.

How long will Beale remain at Rangers?

Details of Beale’s Rangers contract are difficult to find but if the 40-year-old is contracted to the club for the same length of time as Gerrard, he’ll be due to stay at Ibrox until 2024.

The Londoner has had a massive influence at Ibrox over the last few years and it would be a big blow for Rangers to lose him.

While Gerrard is likely to only walk away from Rangers for the chance to take charge at Liverpool, Beale seems to be a bit more open to an Ibrox exit.
