Rangers manager Steven Gerrard played alongside Lucas Leiva at Liverpool, and it does not come as a surprise that the Lazio midfielder has been linked with a move to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

According to a report in The Sun in May, Rangers are interested in signing Lucas from Lazio this summer.

It was reported that new Rangers manager and Liverpool legend Gerrard wants to bring the Brazilian midfielder to Ibrox.

The 31-year-old has been on the books of Italian side Lazio since the summer of 2017 when he joined from Premier League club Liverpool for a transfer fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £5 million.

Gerrard is not the only member of the Rangers management team who knows Lucas; coach Michael Beale has revealed how he sought the advice of the 31-year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder once.

Beale, who worked as a coach at Liverpool, was assistant manager to Rogerio Ceni at Brazilian giants Sao Paulo for a seven-month spell last year, and he has stated that he took advice from Lucas.

“It was fantastic,” Beale told Rangers’ official website. “At the first game, it was a 67,000 sell-out, and there were 30,000 as we came down the hill to get into the stadium with the firecrackers and the smoke – it was everything I wanted that experience to be.

“Obviously, I have worked with players from all over Europe with my previous clubs, but the chance to go and work in South America was fantastic.

“I took some advice from people like Lucas Leiva and other Brazilian players I was lucky to be around, and I heard what a huge club Sao Paulo was.”

Rangers move unlikely?

Both Gerrard and Beale appear to have a good relationship with Lucas, but it is unlikely that the former Liverpool defensive midfielder will move to Rangers.

However, anything is possible in the transfer windows. You never know…
