Rangers coach Michael Beale has spoken highly of Chelsea-owned Derby County defender and reported Celtic target Fikayo Tomori to The Daily Mail.

Beale, who is now a coach at Rangers, worked with Tomori at Chelsea, and he has raved about the 21-year-old defender.

The England Under-21 international defender has spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Derby in the Championship from Premier League club Chelsea.

The youngster has been a key figure in Frank Lampard’s side this campaign and helped them progress to the Championship playoff final.

According to WhoScored, the 21-year-old made 46 starts and one substitute appearance in the Championship for the Rams this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process.

The Daily Record has claimed of interest in Tomori from Celtic, who need to sign a defender in the summer transfer window following the departure of Dedryck Boyata to Hertha Berlin.

Rangers coach Beale worked with Tomori at Chelsea, and he has spoken highly of the youngster.

Beale told The Daily Mail about Tomori: “He’s always been a really athletic boy who you thought wouldn’t fail on that but certainly needed to work technically to get himself to the level he is at now.

“It is hard to be a young central defender but his reading of the game and athleticism to get himself out of problems is fantastic.”

Beale added: “He is a huge personality off the pitch. Very loud and talkative. I’m starting to see that vocal side of him come out in his performances now.”
