Rangers loanee Jack Thomson is one of a number of young Gers to have spent time on loan at League One Clyde this season and the highly-rated Ibrox prospect admits his time at Broadwood has been a “dream.”
Thomson joined the Bully Wee ahead of the return of the lower leagues in Scotland last month and has featured regularly for Danny Lennon’s side as they try to climb up the table.
With the games coming thick and fast for Clyde – they’ve played 11 in the last month – Thomson and his team-mates have had minimal training and the young Ibrox talent admits it has been a “footballer’s dream” to be playing so many games.
Clyde take on St. Johnstone in the Scottish Cup tonight for the right to face the winner of Sunday’s Old Firm clash at Ibrox and Thomson confessed he’s loved every second of his time with the Cumbernauld side.
“I’ve loved it to be honest,” Thomson told the Daily Record.
“I hadn’t played a full game, because of coronavirus, for so long to come into this environment to play every couple of days has been brilliant for my development.
“It’s tough. It’s really competitive and it’s a lot more competitive than academy games. The style is different and it changes a lot.
“The one thing that I’m getting the most out of is the competitiveness of it and how intense games can be. I’m really enjoying that because you don’t get that with academy football.
“We’ve literally got no training. We might have the odd session here and there but it’s just recovery days and playing games – it’s a footballer’s dream.”
Thomson was watched by Gers’ assistant manager Gary McAllister as he came up against another Ibrox loanee last weekend in Kyle McClelland as Clyde faced Falkirk.
Loan manager Billy Kirkwood and Academy chief Craig Mulholland are also regular sights at Clyde fixtures as Thomson and other Rangers youngsters like Kane Ritchie-Hosler, Matty Shiels, Cammy Palmer and Zac Butterworth have spent time at Broadwood this season.
His manager at Clyde, Danny Lennon has been full of praise for Thomson too, calling the Rangers talent one of the best he’s seen at dealing with the “physical aspect” of lower league football.
“I’ve been impressed with him in every game that he’s played and he seems to grow into it,” Lennon told the Record.
“He’s probably the best that I’ve seen at coming in and dealing with the physical aspect of the game.”
