Rangers want Cho Gue-sung and are now pushing to beat Celtic in the race to sign the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors striker this month.

That’s according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, who claim that Rangers are suddenly trying to sign Cho in a late push for his signature.

It’s stated that the two Glasgow rivals are now going ‘head to head’ in the race to sign Cho.

The report even claims that insiders believe Rangers are ‘trying harder’ to sign Cho than Celtic are right now.

This comes after a report from Football Scotland on Sunday, which suggested that Celtic had offered £3million for Cho, outbidding Mainz in the process.

Yet with Jeonbuk advisor Park Ji-sung in the UK to negotiate Cho’s exit, it looks like Rangers are now making a late push to land him.

Cho Gue-sung would be exciting signing for Rangers

Beating Celtic to a major signing like Cho would be exciting stuff in itself.

Yet when you look at Cho’s credentials and Rangers’ need for striking talent, this move seems perfect.

Cho turns 25 later this month and has racked up 16 goals in 45 games for Jeonbuk.

The striker bagged two superb headers for South Korea against Ghana at the World Cup, with his international tally now standing at six goals in 20 games.

Cho’s aerial ability is hugely impressive and his displays at the World Cup suggest that he can make a real impact in the Rangers attack.

Rangers really need a striker or two as well.

Alfredo Morelos is out of contract in the summer and looks set to leave whilst Antonio Colak is injured yet again.

Kemar Roofe has also struggled with injuries and it’s time for Rangers to overhaul their attack if they really want to chase down Celtic under Michael Beale.

Cho fits the bill perfectly and would be a real signal of intent for the Gers, who will now push to pip Celtic to his signature in the coming days.
