Rangers have been handed a massive boost in their pursuit of the riches that come with Champions League group stage qualification – with Steven Gerrard’s side virtually certain of being seeded in the Third Qualifying Round draw in July.

The Light Blues are waiting anxiously to see who would triumph in the Danish title race as FC Midtjylland, Brondy and FC Copenhagen battle it out for the league trophy – with Brondy now firmly in the driving seat.

After beating AGF 2-1 last night, Brondy now sit a point clear of Midtjylland and three ahead of Copenhagen and nine goals better off.

All three sides have one game remaining and as long as Copenhagen don’t pull off an incredible turnaround and overhaul both Midtjylland and Brondy, Rangers will be seeded.

That rules out a potential clash with the likes of Slavia Prague, Dinamo Zagreb, Olympiacos, Young Boys and Red Star Belgrade but does leave Steven Gerrard and his men looking at a possible fixture against Malmo, Cluj, Legia Warsaw or the Danish champions.

Should Rangers reach the Playoff round, the will almost certainly be unseeded with the likes of Austrian champions RB Salzburg or Besiktas standing between the Gers and the group stage.

Qualification would see Rangers pocket as much as £30million with a minimum of just over £13million earned in prize money alone.

The Gers would also be in line for a share of TV revenues and a ‘Coefficient ranking’ bonus also payable – as well as any other payments for individual match performances.

While the Gers still face a massive task in securing their place in the group stage, seeding in the Third Qualifying Round should make it a little bit more manageable for Gerrard and his stars.

The draw takes place for the Third Qualifying Round on July 19 with games on August 3/4 & 10.
