The club have altered their approach after a fantastic start to the season.

Rangers chairman Dave King has revealed how the club’s approach to the January transfer window has changed in light of their storming start, in an interview with Rangers TV.

The Gers currently boast a 100% win record and look to be cruising to the Scottish Championship title already.

King is delighted with the progress and feels that the Rangers project is way ahead of schedule, meaning their focus in the January transfer window will be on preparing for next season in the top flight.

“We discussed this at the board meeting yesterday, and we feel we are way ahead of any of our best expectations both off the field and on the field,” he said.

“We had already had a contingency discussion that if the league was still reasonably tight around about December what we would do in the transfer window.

“Now, we are feeling more comfortable that the business that has been done during the summer is adequate to get us through this season, so our plans, even for the January transfer window, are already focussing on improving the squad for next season rather than looking over our backs to the extent we would have to at this stage of the season.”

It’s an understandably confident tone from the chairman, with the rest of the Championship lagging far behind Mark Warburton’s men, and it’s feasible that this new-look Gers side breaks plenty of records along the way.

The club’s intention is to build a squad capable of challenging Celtic at the first time of asking next season, and so will have their eyes on their Glasgow neighbours when identifying targets in January.

Beating the Hoops to the title next season would be an enormous achievement, but there remains a gulf in quality between the sides that will likely take more than one season to rectify.
