Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers have appointed Steven Gerrard as the Gers’ manager, and chairman Dave King predicts a reaction from Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic.

Steven Gerrard shakes hands with Dave King as he is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers chairman Dave King has told The Scottish Sun that the Ibrox club appointing Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as the Gers’ manager will draw a reaction from Celtic.

Celtic have won the Scottish Premiership title for the seventh season in a row and have the best team in Scotland this campaign, but Rangers chairman King has suggested that Brendan Rodgers’s side will make additions to their squad as a reaction to the Gers appointing former Liverpool midfielder Gerrard as their manager.

King told The Scottish Sun: “One would expect a reaction from Celtic to the appointment of Steven — we will have to wait and see what it is.

“With all Celtic’s resources they are not a million points away from Aberdeen or Hibs. They have resources that are far less than what we have at the moment. We are bringing in a manager we think can tip the balance in our favour.

“Celtic might be over-resourced but you can still only play 11. They have a big squad earning a lot of wages but these wages are not all getting on the pitch. There are opportunities there.”

Rangers chairman Dave King looks on from the stands during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on March 11, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Worrying for Rangers?

Celtic have some of the best players in the Scottish Premiership, such as winger Scott Sinclair, striker Moussa Dembele and midfielder Scott Brown, and the Glasgow giants will be favourites to win the league title next season as well.

Rangers do have some good footballers, but the Ibrox club need much better players to compete with Celtic.

If the Hoops make further big signings in the summer transfer window, then Rangers would find it hard to close the gap on their Old Firm rivals.

If Celtic do react to Rangers appointing Gerrard as their manager, as club chairman King suggests, then it is worrying for the Gers.
