Rangers star Ianis Hagi is looking forward to this weekend’s “really beautiful” Old Firm clash with Celtic at Ibrox and the Romanian international has given his verdict on his own performances against the Parkhead side this season.
Hagi has appeared in two of the three Old Firms this term, playing 45 minutes of the January 2nd win at Ibrox before getting 65 minutes at Parkhead last month as the sides drew 1-1.
With the Glasgow giants meeting so early in the competition, Hagi has his sights set on a clash with St. Johnstone or Clyde in the next round and taking a step toward the Gers’ first domestic double since 2009.
Athough he is yet to get a full 90 minutes in British football’s biggest derby, the 22-year-old has been happy with his performances against Celtic in his two Old Firm appearances, telling Rangers TV that he felt “really good” in the chaos that follows when the Glasgow giants meet.
“It is an early Old Firm, and we would maybe have expected it to be later in the tournament,” Hagi said, “But, an Old Firm is an Old Firm, so it will be really beautiful, a really good game and obviously, we want to win and go to the next round and just get the job done.
“I think [I did] really good, especially the one we played at home. I came on at half time and I felt really good on the pitch and we won that game.
“There is something missing in an Old Firm and I think that is obvious – and that is the fans.
“Obviously, I am looking forward to having the fans in the stadium at home and away, and especially in an Old Firm game as everyone is talking about how different an Old Firm game with the fans in the stadium is, and how beautiful it is, so I am looking forward to that.”
