A number of Glasgow Rangers and Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the appointment of Bobby Madden to referee the Scottish Premiership Old Firm derby between the Light Blues and the Bhoys at Ibrox this Sunday (BBC Sport).

The 40-year-old official took charge of the infamous third meeting between the two bitter rivals last season, the 2-1 win for the Hoops at Parkhead which featured numerous flashpoints, two red cards and a post-match fracas.

Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos and Andy Halliday were shown red cards for incidents with Scott Brown during and after the game, while Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard later accepted a one-game touchline ban for comments made towards Madden (BBC Sport).

In the derby at Parkhead in March 2017, Madden did not give Celtic a penalty when Leigh Griffiths was brought down in the penalty box by Clint Hill, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw, with former Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers claiming it was a “clear penalty” (BBC Sport).

Needless to say, there have been a couple of complaints over Madden’s appointment from both the blue side and the green side of Glasgow, with just a few of the social media comments shared below:
