Glasgow Rangers and Celtic fans alike are having to put up with Ibrox and Parkhead having to start their seasons early due to Scotland’s UEFA coefficient.

A number of Glasgow Rangers and Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Kilmarnock’s shock Europa League elimination at the hands of Connah’s Quay Nomads and both Ibrox and Parkhead faithful seem to be in agreement about one thing.
Callum Morris’ penalty proved decisive for the Welsh side at Rugby Park, who recovered from a 2-1 first leg defeat in Wales to earn an unlikely 3-2 aggregate win, knocking Angelo Alessio’s side out and setting up a tie with Partizan Belgrade of Serbia.
While Killie’s shock defeat gave many Rangers and Celtic fans an opportunity to mock the 2018-19 Scottish Premiership’s third-placed side, such a result is bad news for the whole country as it damages their UEFA coefficient – the reason why Scottish teams are having to kick off their campaigns in early July.
Here is what some Bears and Bhoys alike said on social media following the result – and what it could mean for Rangers and Celtic in the long run:
While Killie had a night to forget, Rangers and Celtic had better luck in Europe as the Ibrox side thrashed St Joseph’s to book a tie against Luxembourg’s Progres Niederkorn – who themselves shocked the Gers in the Europa League two years ago.
The Bhoys, meanwhile, will face Estonian side Nomme Kalju in the Champions League second qualifying round after getting past FK Sarajevo of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, and Aberdeen will face Georgian side Chikhura Sachkhere in the Europa League second qualifying round after surviving a scare against Finland’s RoPS in Lapland.
