Rangers and Celtic both want to sign Cho Gue-Sung, but there is now a considerable offer on the table from MLS side Minnesota United.

That’s according to Chosun over in Cho’s native South Korea, as they claim that Minnesota are putting their ‘life and death’ on signing Cho.

It’s claimed that Minnesota have now placed an offer worth $5million (£4.1million) on the table for Cho in the hope of winning the race.

Sky Sports claim that Celtic have offered £3million for Cho, meaning Minnesota’s bid for the striker is much bigger.

Celtic remain in talks today but may have to pay much more than they were expecting in order to win this race.

Celtic also have to deal with bitter rivals Rangers being in the mix for Cho’s signature too.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported on Monday that Rangers are trying harder than Celtic to sign Cho, but Minnesota’s offers may blow both out of the water.

Who is Rangers and Celtic target Cho Gue-sung?

Cho, 24, came through the ranks at FC Anyang over in South Korea, eventually scoring 14 goals in 36 first-team appearances.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors swooped in to sign Cho in 2020 and his record of 16 goals in 45 games is strong.

That may not look like all that many games played for a 24-year-old, but there is a reason for that.

Cho enlisted with military team Gimcheon Sangmu in 2021 as he served his mandatory military service.

That experience allowed Cho to develop physically and 22 goals in 51 games there meant he continued his goalscoring prowess.

The World Cup has really put Cho on the map though having scored two superb headers against Ghana in Qatar.

Celtic and Rangers have now been alerted to Cho’s quality and potential as they chase striking additions.

Celtic look set to sell Giorgos Giakoumakis this month and would need a physical replacement like Cho to take his spot.

Rangers may well lose Alfredo Morelos on a free transfer in the summer and Cho may be viewed as the future of Michael Beale’s attack.

The fight for Cho is intensifying by the day, with Minnesota now just as likely to be his next destination as Glasgow.
