Rangers want Cedric Kipre and will now be encouraged amid claims that West Bromwich Albion are open to sell him this summer.
The Gers have a centre back coming in this summer with John Souttar arriving on a free transfer from Heart of Midlothian.
Connor Goldson has since signed a new contract to stay with Rangers for the foreseeable future, but Leon Balogun is on his way out.
Goldson, Souttar and Filip Helander will likely lead Rangers’ centre back options next season but there could be room for one more addition.
Rangers want Cedric Kipre
One of the names prominently linked with Rangers has been West Brom defender Kipre.
The Birmingham Mail reported in May that Rangers are interested in signing Kipre this summer after years of tracking him.
It was suggested that Rangers have liked Kipre ever since his time at Motherwell.
The Ivorian defender was outstanding at Millwall and his performances earned him a 2018 move to Wigan Athletic.
Kipre continued to shine at Wigan and was snapped up by West Bromwich Albion in 2020.
Kipre wasn’t given a single Premier League appearance before being sent on loan to Belgian side Charleroi.
The 25-year-old played 14 time in the Championship last season but then wasn’t picked from the end of January onwards.
Steve Bruce curiously didn’t pick Kipre even once at West Brom and it looks like his time at The Hawthorns is coming to an end.
The Athletic claim that Kipre is surplus to requirements under Bruce and will likely be allowed to leave West Brom this summer.
Kipre wants to get out and play first-team football and it looks like that just isn’t going to come under Bruce any time soon.
That means a deal is there to be done if Rangers really do want to sign Kipre and it may not set them back all that much as the Baggies look to cut their losses.
